# The best LinkedIn post format

Updated October 16, 2026. We analyzed **44,646 LinkedIn posts** published by 945 creators from October 2025 to September 2026 (the last 12 complete months), out of 270,353 posts MyFeedIn tracks.

## TL;DR

**PDF carousels and multi-image posts get the most reach on LinkedIn.**

| Format | Reach | Likes | Comments | Top 10% odds |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| PDF carousel | x1.5 (#1) | x1.6 (#2) | x2.5 (#1) | x1.2 (#1) |
| Multi-image | x1.4 (#2) | x1.9 (#1) | x1.5 (#3) | x0.8 (#4) |
| Image | x1.2 (#3) | x1.4 (#3) | x2.0 (#2) | x1.2 (#1) |
| Video | x1.0 (#4) | x0.8 (#4) | x0.5 (#4) | x1.1 (#3) |
| Text-only | x0.6 (#5) | x0.5 (#5) | x0.0 (#5) | x0.7 (#5) |

- PDF carousels get **x1.5** and multi-image posts get **x1.4** the impressions of a typical post.
- At the bottom, text-only posts get **x0.6**.
- Most likes: multi-image posts (**x1.9**). Most comments: PDF carousels (**x2.5**).
- Videos have the highest average, but a typical video gets **x1.0**: a few viral ones pull the average up.

x1.0 is a typical LinkedIn post, the median of all 44,646 posts analyzed: 503 impressions, 11 likes and 2 comments. Top 10% odds: how often the format lands in the 10% most-viewed posts, compared with any post.

## Which format should you pick?

The data shows what reaches people. It can't tell you what you will keep publishing every week, and a format you drop after a month reaches no one.

### Text-only: Comfortable writing in your own voice?

- **Yes:** Start here. It is the fastest format to publish every week. Add a visual when you have a real one.
- **No:** Keep the text short and pair it with a screenshot or a photo so the post doesn't rely on writing alone.

### Image: Have something real to show (work, results, screenshots)?

- **Yes:** Use it. A single image is the easiest visual to make and the most common format on LinkedIn.
- **No:** Skip stock photos. An image that adds nothing makes the post look like an ad.

### Carousel: Can you turn one idea into 5 to 10 slides?

- **Yes:** Make carousels, as a PDF or a few images. Each slide gives people a reason to keep swiping.
- **No:** Start with 2 or 3 photos in one post. A rushed carousel looks worse than a clean single image.

### Video: Comfortable on camera, OK with editing?

- **Yes:** Go for it, and judge the format over 10 videos, not one. Results vary a lot from one video to the next.
- **No:** Skip it. A forced video takes more time than any other format and it shows.

## Methodology

- **Posts:** 44,646 LinkedIn posts published by 945 creators from October 2025 to September 2026, the last 12 complete months. MyFeedIn tracks 270,353 posts in total.
- **Source:** Posts synced by MyFeedIn users from their own accounts, with the impressions LinkedIn reports to the author.
- **Metric:** The median, meaning the typical post. Averages are mentioned only where a few viral posts tell a different story.
- **Multipliers:** x1.0 is a typical LinkedIn post, the median of all 44,646 posts analyzed: 503 impressions, 11 likes and 2 comments.
- **Top 10% odds:** A format's share of the 10% most-viewed posts divided by its share of all posts. x1.0 means it gets there as often as any post.
- **Deduplication:** A post synced by several members of the same workspace is counted once.
- **Exclusions:** Posts with 0 impressions (analytics never synced) are left out. The current month is left out until it is complete.
- **Formats:** Video if the post has a video, PDF carousel if it has a document, multi-image with 2 or more images, image with 1, text-only otherwise.
- **Freshness:** Impressions keep growing for weeks and are updated when the author syncs, so the latest months can read lower than they will end up.
- **Small samples:** A month where a format has fewer than 30 posts is left blank.
- **Updated:** Daily. Last update: October 16, 2026.

## FAQ

### What is the best LinkedIn post format?

PDF carousels and multi-image posts get the most reach on LinkedIn. PDF carousels get x1.5 and multi-image posts get x1.4 the impressions of a typical post. At the bottom, text-only posts get x0.6. x1.0 is a typical LinkedIn post, the median of all 44,646 posts analyzed: 503 impressions, 11 likes and 2 comments. The best format for you is still the one you can publish every week.

### Do videos perform well on LinkedIn?

Videos rank #4 of 5 on reach: x1.0 impressions, x0.8 likes and x0.5 comments compared with a typical post. The top 25% get x2.8 the impressions of a typical post. Odds of reaching the top 10%: x1.1, in line with how often they are posted. Hit or miss: their average is x10.0 their median.

### Are carousels still worth it on LinkedIn?

Yes. PDF carousels get x1.5 and multi-image posts x1.4 the impressions of a typical post. Yet they are only 11% of posts, so they still stand out in the feed. x1.0 is a typical LinkedIn post, the median of all 44,646 posts analyzed: 503 impressions, 11 likes and 2 comments.

### Do text-only posts still work on LinkedIn?

They reach fewer people. Text-only posts rank #5 of 5 on reach: x0.6 impressions, x0.5 likes and x0.0 comments compared with a typical post. They are still 32% of posts, likely because they are the fastest to write.

### How is this data calculated?

We take the 44,646 LinkedIn posts with impressions data published from October 2025 to September 2026 by MyFeedIn users, dedupe them, group them by format and compare medians. x1.0 is a typical LinkedIn post, the median of all 44,646 posts analyzed: 503 impressions, 11 likes and 2 comments. The numbers are recomputed every day, last on October 16, 2026.

### How do I format the text inside my post?

LinkedIn's composer has no bold, italic or bullet buttons, whatever the format you pick. The workaround is Unicode text: a free LinkedIn text formatter adds bold, italic and bullets with a live preview, so your posts are easy to scan in the feed. See [our free LinkedIn text formatter](https://myfeedin.co/free-tools/linkedin-post-formatter).

### Can I see these stats for my own posts?

Yes. MyFeedIn's LinkedIn analytics break down your own posts by format, with impressions, likes and comments for each, so you can check whether these trends hold for your audience. See [MyFeedIn's LinkedIn analytics](https://myfeedin.co/features/linkedin-analytics).
